    So it would appear as if the flagellates in this instance lived for at least three days, and were then destroyed by the presence of the increasing toxin, which appears to act first on the more mature parasites present in the peripheral blood. It has been found that during a paroxysm lasting five days in all, when the mean measurements of a considerable number of flagellates on each day of the period in question have been made, the trypanosomata gradually increase in length, until the parasites had been swarming in the peri- pheral blood for a period of twenty-four hours. During the following two days they decreased in length.
