    occurred. I understand he lias not even at- tempted to vaccinate the child. 296. Kinnell.—Vaccination continues to be well attended to in this parish. 301. Liff, Benvie, and Invergowrie.— Duriug year 1866, the Vaccination Act has wrought very smoothly. The district doctor has been attentive in reminding parties of their obligations. 312. Montrose.—Of the two births reported in 1865 as removed from this district, a certifi- cate of successful vaccination has been received for one. The parents of the other cannot be found. 317. Rescobie—Only one case of postpone- ment during the four years, and no case of neglect on the part of parents or guardians. 13. Perth. 364. Kincardine.—The registration is care- fully attended to, both by the parents and by the medical practitioners of the district. 370. (2.) Glenshee.—One child was removed from the district previous to its vaccination, but on application, a certificate of successful vacci- nation was forwarded in due time. 385. Logieaemond.—The Act works very well in this district. 376. Logierait.—The Act has been very well attended to in this parish. 380. Methven.—The Irish still give a great amount of trouble in their desire to avoid pay- ing the vaccinator’s fee. 384. Moulin.—With the exception of an ille- gitimate child born by a vagrant, and removed from the parish prior to vaccination, and whose residence has not yet been ascertained, vaccina- tion was most successfully carried out during the period embraced in the return. 387. Perth.—There occurs to us no circum- stance calling for special remark. We may say that in general our certificates come in pretty regularly. We, however, have in a good many instances to resort to the defaulters’ circular, numbers allowing the statutory period to expire before they appear. As a slight check on this remissness, we would suggest that, in any future bill being brought in, the Registrar be allowed at once to charge the circular fee. 394. (a.) Scone—Parents generally careful in having vaccination attended to in due time. 14. Fife. 408. Ballingrv.—The Act has been operat- ing most satisfactorily. 411. Burntisland.—The purposes of the Act have been fully carried out, and readily complied with. 426 Dvsart.—Of the 341 children whose births were recorded in this district during 1866, 37 died before vaccination, the remaining 304 were successfully vaccinated, without prose- cution or penalty in any case. 442. Kirkcaldy.—The Act is now working satisfactorily. 453. St. Andrews and St. Leonards.—On the whole the Act works well. V.—WEST MIDLAND DIVISION. 17. Stirling. 479. (1.) Falkirk—The numbers successfully vaccinated testify to the successful operation of the Act in this district. 490. Stirling.—The Act is working very well. 18. Dumbarton. 496. Dumbarton—A very large number of persons still neglect to get their children vacci- nated within the given period, and during the last year it has been necessary to send by post about 100 Registrar’s notices, or about one for every four of all the births registered. And for all this extra work only one shilling has been received by the Registrar. The number of postponed vaccinations has also been very great —75, or more than one for every six of all the births registered. The prevalence of Scarlet Fever during the last five months is no doubt the cause of such a large proportion. 498. Kirkintilloch.—Of the 333 births regis- tered, 290 were legitimate, and 43 illegitimate- And of the 26 cases of death before vaccination, 15 were of the former class, and nine of the latter; being about 5 per cent, in the one case, and 20 per cent, in the other. 19- Argyll. Mainland. 504. Ardchattan.—Vaccination is well at- tended to, but long distances from a medical officer, and inclement weather at times, cause some little delay in the performance. 505. (1.) Aharacle.—The Act works well here now, greatly owing to the unwearied exertions of our excellent medical man. 505. (2.) Akisaig.—The Vaccination Act works well in this district generally, but the people seem to have got it into their heads that the medical man is bound to go to their very doors; so much is this the case, that on one occasion the vaccinator having sent word to a part of the district (eight miles distant) to meet him at the schoolhouse there, only one appeared, and the consequence is that we have three defaulters from that part of the district. The Registrars throughout Scotland should unite in demanding more than the miserable threepence an entry- For my own part, I find vaccination more trouble- some than the registration of births, etc. 510. Dunoon and Kilmun.—The Act has been pretty successful. 512. Glenorchy and Inisiiail.—22 Births were registered during the year 1866, and the whole vaccinated. 513. iNVERARAr.—The provisions of the Act much better attended to. 516. (2.) Kilberry.—The Register Book of Births for 1866 contains 14 entries; 12 of the said entries have been successfully vaccinated, and two died before vaccination. 623. Kilmore and Kilbride.—The Act is working very successfully. 526. Lochgilphead.—I find that the notices which I send to the dilatory have a very good effect. In all cases I receive an instant reply, if the parties have not left the district. I prefer working them up in this way to bothering the Inspector of Poor. 532. Southend.—The provisions of the Act are, upon the whole, well attended to, although in a few cases certificates have not been sent in within the specified time. 534. (2.) Strachur.—Of the 23 cases for the year 1S66, none were unsuccessful or postponed, which reflects great credit upon the vaccinator. 535. Tarbert.—I may say the Act is working very well, except in a few cases, and these chiefly among the lowest characters, who constantly grumble against the charge of 2s. 6d. Insular. 541.
