    i791. was at 18°, and the day windy, with showers of snow, hail, and rain. Probably the cold at Keswick was as extreme as at Kendal. Mr. Crosruwatre’s lowest observation was 6°; bunt the proximity of his thermometer to the house, might be a means of keeping up the temperature in such an extremity as this. 1792. Strong frost the second week in January. Little frost or snow in November and December. SECTION NENTH: Account of Bottom winds on Derwent lake. Derwent lake is one of those few which are agi- tated at certain times, during a calm season, by some unknown cause. The phenomenon is called a bottom wind. Mr. Crosruwaire has been pretty assiduous in procuring intelligence respecting these phenomena, and in observing any circumstance that might lead to a discovery of their cause; but nothing has occurred yet that promises to throw light on the subject.
