The building was constructed over a long period from 1855 onwards, architect W.B. Hays. From 1939 the hospital was called the Royal Adelaide Hospital. The buildings shown here were demolished in 1963 (J. Estcourt Hughes, A history of the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide 1967, pp. x, 27-31)
