External heat being removed from a fluid, although the preflure of the cold atrnofphere be freely admitted; it is, neverthelefs, a confiderable time before the air, rarefied by heat, returns to a ftate of refl. Earthy particles may be fufpended in a tranfparent fluid, The procefs for making magnefia alba proves this—it is no contemptible experiment^ though in familiar practice. \ Two tranfparent liquors being mixed, they inflantly lofe both their tranfparency and fluidity, and become one intire white in- fpiffated fubflance—this being repeatedly wafloed with water, the white earth, when dried, is the common magnefia alba of the JJoops. . . ‘ y ' *• 4 It is well known this white earth was originally fufpended in an aqueous menflruum, by means of the vitriolic acid; and in this procefs, it is precipitated by the flxed alkaline.
