![In the third ftage, where the veins, lympha- tics ^ and cells of the adipofe fubjlance and tubuli la5fiferiy are probably filled with a coagulated matter, and become all together one confufed mafs, little fuccefs may be expedled, yet it re- quires a iimilar mode of treatment; for though no cure may be performed, the increafe of the diforder, which might be rapid, is frequently for years retarded. A more powerful plan may iikewife be at- tempted, which, though feldom, has fometimes proved fuccefsful. Inflead of the pills, in addition to all the former methods, the following preparation may be adminiilered, if there appear no material ob- jed:ion in the patient's conilitution, or in the tone of the flomach, to forbid its ufe ; though the fmall doles of the bydrargyrus muriaius^ joined with antimon, tartartjat., rarely difagrees with any patient, being from the thirty-fecond to the eighth part of a grain.
