This is a so cial occasion, not a religious one, a time to enjoy our friends and visitors. OdiU Life on Other Worlds When Harvard University astronomer Harlow Shapley (a Unitarian, incidentally) speculated some years ago on the possibility of there being conscious and cogitating animals elsewhere in the universe besides planet Earth, his judgment was not based on flying saucers, extra-sensory perception, divine revelation, intuition, or other odd bits of mumbo jumbo, but on his sound knowledge of physical and biological science — the innumerable multitude of other planets, the physical factors conducive to the generation and evolution of living organisms, and the immutability of the law of chance. Professor Shapley did not say there was such life on other worlds, but that there could be. No one on earth knows whether there is or is not. Sane true believers, obsessed by a nomocentric complex, took offense at what they thought the Harvard as tronomer had said. Nobody but the stupid, ignorant, or prejudiced will say there could not be. / ¿V d- - / Editor
