![18 2 A Commentary, Sfc. remember a middle aged man, to wliom it had done irreparable mifchief. Were a glowing warmth to follow its ufe, 1 fliould expect it to do fervice ; but if coldnefs enfues, injury would moft pro¬ bably be the confequence. It may chiefly have been employed in the convalefcent ftate of the fpurious kind of this malady ; for when the vifcid fluids are attenuated, J * ' 1 ' *. ‘''s' and fet at liberty, it may complete the recovery, by ftrcngthening the xonftitu- tion. But fliould an amendment any way fhew itfelf in a true palfy, I fee no reafon for employing fo hazardous a remedy. The above hints may readily be ex¬ tended by men of fcience to all that is connected with the fubjed ; and, I truft, it will be found that I have not built on the fandv foundation of fpecu]ative theory, but on the rock of plain fimple facts.
