Dr. Borland states that there have been only two changes worth noting during the year. One has been the moi’e frequent use of drainage tubes in abscesses and a few other cases. The other consists in the employment, in a number of abscesses and cases attended by chronic discharge, of Mr. Sampson’s Gamgee’s absorbent pads and cotton wool. These have been found most useful and cleanly, readily absorbing fluids, and forming a distinct improvement on the poulticing previously employed in such cases. The cotton of course cannot soak up the more solid parts of a discharge, consisting of ‘ curdy ’ pus. Otherwise it forms an admirable dressing. BOBKRT MACLEHOSE, PKINTEK, GLASGOW.
