This expanse of water, together with the partial protection afforded by the higher land to the west, combine to assist in the maintenance of a pleasantly equable climate. The subsoil in the main is of sand and gravel which tend to dry out rapidly after any wet spell. Sources of employment are many and varied, but the aircraft industry, directly and indirectly, is the most important. There are in addition two large government establishments. The area offers many attractions to those seeldLng a pleasant place to live on retirement. There is no industrial smoke problem. RAINFALL FOR 1960: Ins. Ins.
