The PostHumous Papers of the Pickwick CLUB: some NEw BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DISCOVERIES, 20 pages, 8vo., wrappers, 1928 5/- This small contribution to the bibliography of ‘‘ Pickwick ’’ is the work of one who has been both a lover and a collector of the writings of Dickens for over 40 years, and who has had the opportunity of examining and comparing an exceptionally large number of first editions. That this bibliography has become the authority on the points of a genuine first issue Pickwick is amply demonstrated by the constant phrase to be found in both Auctioneer’s and Bookseller’s Catalogues—‘‘ According to Davis.”’ See facsimile opposite 356 DICKENS (Cuar.es) PostHumovus Parrrs of the Pickwick CLus, GENUINE First Issuz of the First Epirion, with 43 2llustrations by Seymour, Buss and “‘ Phiz,” all the plates in the earliest state, 8vo., new levant morocco extra, t.e.g., 1837 £50 It is definitely established that only a smali number of the genuine first issue of Pickwick Papers were printed, of which very few copies exist. Whilst collectors have usually paid attention to the issue of the plates, Mr. George W. Davis (the well-known Dickens authority) has recently discovered several important points in the text, which only occur in the first issue and which have been hitherto unnoticed by Bibliographer or Collector. The above copy has all the points, both as regards text and plates, and has been verified by Mr. avis.
