In addition to the annual contribution to the Nursing Association, annual contributions are made to Reedyford Hospital, and] the Manchester Hospitals, which include the Royal Infirmary, St. Mary’s, the Royal Eye Hospital, and the Royal Children’s Hospital. Milk, etc., for Expectant Mothers and Infants. A scheme is in operation for the provision of milk in necessitous cases both for ante-natal mothers and infants, whilst Ostermilk and Almata are sold at nett cost price. Cod Liver Oil Emulsion and Lactogol are also sold. The following figures give an indication of the amount of milk supplied free during the year. There are 7 midwives practising in the town who are on the County Council Register. Of these, however, 5 are in the employ of the Local Authority at the Fern Lea Maternity Home. No midwife is employed or assisted by the Local Authority for district work. Legislation in Force. A list of the local and adopted Sanitary Acts administered by the Council is given on page 4. Water Supply. This is derived from two gathering grounds, one 4 miles distant on the East side of the town, supplying Coldwell Reser¬ voir, and one 4 miles distant on the West side of the town supplying Ogden Reservoir. Coldwell Reservoir:—Altitude 943 feet; capacity 80,000,000 gallons; filtration, 4 “ Bell ” Vertical Filters; nature of water, good, very slightly hard.
