Cnicus benedictus (Holy thistle)

Close-up of very grey spring leaves and thistle-like flower heads of yellow orange. Used in homeopathy to treat hepatitis, jaundice and arthritis. Has also been used to treat chilblains and shingles. Excessive doses cause vomiting. Gives a bitter tang to spiritous liquors.
