Description
Previously identified as a portrait of Herman Boerhaave. The portrait seems compatible with Boerhaave's known portraits. The sitter is dressed in robes with a landscape view in the distance

A name inscribed on the reverse may indicate that the painting is by Pieter van der Werff, who, like his better-known brother Adriaen, is known to have painted portraits at the beginning of the 18th century
