![HKOMiDK OF AMMONIUAF.—Acts as a sedative to the nervous system, is useful in sleepless- ness and in epilepsy. (See Recipe No t.) Dose : 5 to 30 grains. CAIXIMFL.—A useful aperient medicine acting on the liver. Should be given in the forjii of i)ills or mixed with treacle or sugar. \^ery serviceable in jaundice and malarious levers. Often given in cases of sy})hilis to prevent secondary symptoms. Dose : ^ to 5 grains. (See the hbove diseases.) (h'VAIFflOR.—Two ounces to half a pint of whisky or brandy makes spirits of camphor; veiy useful in diarrhnc'a and cholei'a ; also in cold of the liead. Dose of spirits of camphor: 5 to 20 drops. Carbolic Acid Liquefied.—Used in making carbolic-acid lotion and carbolic oil. (See Recipes Nos. 1G and 1 7.) Carbolic Acid (Crude).—To be mixed with wat(‘r for washing decks, bunks, and all ])laces in which foul smells exist. One ounce to a quart of water for general disin- fecting ])urposes, and half that quantity for scrubbing clothes or washing the skin will be suHicient. Carron Oil.—An excellent application for burns.
