Whereas the Board of Infpectors of the Health Of- fice of Philadelphia have reported tome, that it ap- pears from authentic information to them exhibited, that an infectious or contagious difeafc cxifts in the city of New-York, in the ftate of New-York, and that there is reafon alio to believe, that afimilar difeafe exifts in the town of Norfolk, in theftate of Virginia, fo that the lafcty and health of the citizens of Philadelphia require a ftoppage of intercourfe with the faid infected places. Therefore, in purfuance of the duty in fuch cafe on me enjoined by law, but with a iinccre regret for the un- happy occaiion, I, the faid Thos. Mifflin, governor of the faid commonwealth, have deemed it expedient to ifiue this proclamation, hereby prohibiting for the term of one month, or until fuch prohibition ftiall be by proclamation lawfully revoked, all intercourfe between the faid city of Philadelphia, and the faid city of New- York and the faid town of Norfolk, and any place or places within five miles thereof, reflectively, as well by land as by water, under the penalty of three hundred d.ollars, to be recovered from, and paid by each and e- very perfon tranlgrefTing the faid prohibition in the man- ner herein after fpecified, agreeably to the terms aid directions of the act of the General AfTembly, in fuch cafe made and provided: and to the intent, that luita- ble and fufficient meafures may be taken and purfued for carrying info effect the faid prohibition, I have fur- ther deemed it expedient hereby to requcft that as well](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b21113853_0030.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
