![by exceed eight months, but Study Leave may be so taken provided such leave is for not less than two months and the total period of combined privilege leave, furlough and Study Leave does not exceed eight months ; this limitation to eight months does not, however, apply in the case of Study Leave combined with privilege leave alone. The total period of absence from duty in India, in the case of officers under the Leave Rules of 1886 for the Indian Army, will be strictly limited to two years. 7. Except as provided in Rule 8, all applications for Study Leave shall be submitted, with the audit officer’s certificate, to the Director-General, Indian Medical Service, through the prescribed channel, and the course or courses of studv contemplated and anv examination the candidate ])roposes to undergo shall be clearly specified therein. 8. Officers on furlough who wish to have part of their furlough converted into Study Leave should address the Under-Secretary of State, India Office, and should furnish a statement showing how it is proposed to spend the Study Leave. vSimilarl}/. officers on furlough or other leave, who desire to have it extended for purposes of study, should address the Under-Secretary of State, but in addition to the statement of the proposed study they must support their applications with documentarv evi- dence of their having obtained tlie approval of the authorities concerned in India to their applying for an extension of leave. 9.
