    The portrait gallery especially gave them great pleasure. The two bowling-greens have been in constant requisi¬ tion during the season, and many matches have been played between the Gartnavel Club and different clubs from the city and neighbourhood. There were also cricket matches, foot-ball, and skittles. The Directors have to notice, with pleasure, on this head, that Mr. Anderson, of the Partick Bowling Club, handsomely presented a pair of beautiful bowls to the Patients; and the Bellahouston Club two pair of a similar description, in the same kind manner. It need not be added that the Patients were deeply grateful, and did not fail to thank the worthy donors on the green. As far as practicable the weekly dances have been continued, and during the winter a magic lantern (with the newest picture-slides) was exhibited; and a series of admirable concerts have been given gratuitously, through the instrumentality of many kind friends. The thanks of the Directors are due to- Mr. Thomas Steel, President of the Abstainers’ Union, to his colleagues in the direction, and to Mr. Airlie, their able and indefatigable Secretary, as also to the artistes from London and elsewhere engaged by them for the Saturday Evening Concerts, for coming as formerly to perform for the gratification of the Patients. The services of these distinguished persons were ably supplemented by amateur ladies and gentlemen, to whom also the Directors would tender their best thanks. Mr. George Boy and his party gave a concert, with recitations in his very best style, which, as usual, were exceedingly well received.
