About this work

Description

Narrated by Samuel West. A very moving look at the life and death dilemmas faced by doctors and patients, over who should receive liver transplants. The programme focuses on the cases of four patients, who are being assessed by the Liver Transplant Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, for inclusion on their list. Patients who are selected for inclusion must conform to the strict criteria set out in National Guidlines, but the final decision is a matter of judgement for the team. The families and patients talk frankly of their feelings as they await the decision of the medical team. Contains detailed footage of liver transplant surgery.
