![The Wellcome Institute exists to provide library resources and research and teaching facilities for all persons with serious interests in the history of medicine and in allied subjects. It is supported solely by the Wellcome Trust, a charity created by the will of Sir Henry S. Wellcome (1853-1936). This booklet is one in a series describing the collections and history of the Wellcome Institute Library. The Wellcome Institute is at 183 Euston Road, London NW1 2BP, England. The Library is open from Monday to Friday, 9.45-17.15 (19.30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays), but closed on public holidays and between Christmas and New Year. Visitors wishing to use the Special Collections are advised to make an appointment with the appropriate Curators in advance (tel. 01-387 4477). From 2 April 1990 through 1991, the Institute's temporary address is Bentley House, 200 Euston Road, London NW1 2BQ.
