    Instead of allowing the arm to remain rotated inwards and extended and the wrist and fingers flexed, the indications are to keep the arm rotated outwards, the elbow flexed and the wrist and fingers hyper-extended, while the muscles which have been overcome by their antagonists should be stimulated by friction and massage. Recovery generally takes place in about fourteen days, and this is not in the least aided by electricity. Fig. 2. The spinal paralysis of children to which the term'polio- myelitis refers is almost exclusively a disease of the second and third years, although cases have been recorded in which the symptoms have been pronounced during the first few days of life, and other stray reports may be found in which symptoms identical with those of polio-myelitis have occurred between the ages of six and twenty. The greater number of cases occur during the second year, and principally during the hot summer months. Well nourished and puny children
