![The number of deaths has shown a tendency to rise since 1945 and in 1951 was greater than for any year during the preceding ten years. This is not unexpected and is a direct reflection of the ageing of the population. Some 68fo of the deaths were of persons of 65 years of age and over. The main causes of death were Heart Disease 59, Vascular lesions of the nervous system 26 and malignant growths 19.
