Dedicated to Lodovico Bonaciolo. Highly interesting work by this famous medical humanist. ‘¢ Of the medical humanists, NiccolO Leoniceno (1428-1524), pro- fessor of medicine at Padova, Bologna and Ferrara, a friend of Politian and Linacre, and, like them, an elegant Latinist, made a famous translation of the Aphorisms of Hippocrates, and towards the close of his life, had even begun, by request, an accurate Latin translation of the works of Galen. He also wrote one of the earliest of the Re- naissance-tracts on syphilis, but his chief service to science lay in the difficult task of correcting the botanical errors in the natural history of Pliny, ’’.
