![[A] BEPOET OF THE VISITING SUBGEON AND SUPERINTENDENT, AND THE EESIDENT MEDICAL OEEICEE, To the Committee of Visitors of the Bedford Lunatic Asylum. Gentlemen, The period having arrived at which the Annual Eeport of the Medical Officers is required, we have the honour of submitting the following for the year 1850. During the year 102 patients have been admitted, 45 males 57 females, many of advanced age, incurable, and in bad health. The average number has been 260, the greatest number 272, and the total number under treatment 354. We have much pleasure in stating that although there have been many admitted, and several are now in the Asylum with a strong propensity to suicide, yet no fatal case has occurred. There have been discharged 51 patients, 19 males and 32 fe¬ males, 26 of whom were recovered, 19 improved, and 6 unim¬ proved. Some have been applied for by friends and removed in an improved state, and ultimately recovered ; other patients in the same state, have been removed to Union Houses, which ha« relieved the crowded state of the Asylum.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30305007_0016.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
