Therefore it is impossible to use the report of cases as a basis for a comparison of the rate of preva- lence during the period of the outbreak with the rates for correspond- ing periods of previous years. The report of deaths, however, appears to have been cpiite complete for some years past, and may be used as a fair basis for comparison. From December 1, 1909, to April 1, 1910, the number of deaths from typhoid fever reported was 59. For the four corresponding periods of the years immediately preceding those in which the out- break occurred the numbers were as follows: Number of deaths from typhoid fever reported: December 1, 1905, to April 1, 1906.. ; 8 December 1, 1906, to April ], 1907 8 December 1, 1907, to April 1, 1908 9 December 1, 1908, to April 1, 1909 ]2
