![Athletics. In the latter sport, new ground has been broken by St Anselm’s College winning the trophy for the rno.st improved school in athletics during the Inter-Sr-bools Onupetition held at hirkeidie.-.d Park Rugby Club Ground. As a Direct-Grant Aided School, along with Biritenliead School, they continue to cement a friendly spirit of rivalry in this type of Inter-Schools Competition. In Youth Work it is with pleasure that we record that seven of the fourteen Cheshire County players in Netball have been selected from the Livingstone Street Gymnasium. In Basketball, a former player of this Centre has obtained his Colours at Manchester University and three youths have gained their place in their Battalion sides during their first year of Military Service. In the Senior National Championships the “ lUxplorers ” have reached the Quarter-Finals, and in the Junior Ihutish National Championship.s, Pegasus ” have reached the Semi-Finals. Schools and Yr)uth Clubs have continued to receive the benefit of the following National coaches: — A.A.A. Northern Counties Coach: Mr. D. C. V. Watts. F.A. Coach: Mr. W. Cook (recently returned from Ireland). Table Tennis: Mr J. Carrington. In Boxing, for the first time on record, a European Championship has been won by a Birkenhead boxer, W. Thom, M elterweight (’hamj)ion of Great Ih’itain. At tlie same time. B. McAt^eer has won the Middleweight (Jiani])ionslu]) of Great Pu’itish and the British Plrnpire Championshi]). The organiser of Pliysical Education lias, during the year, been appointed to sit on three National Committees: — Advisory Council of A.A.A.—Schools Consultative Commiftee. National Committee of Organisers of P.E.—A.B.A. National Committee of Organisers of P.E.—A.A.A. Once again I wish to express my appreciation to the Education Committee, Offic'ers, Head I’eachers and Staffs of Schools who have continued to make possible further development in physical education during the year. REPORT OF THE PRINCIPAL SCHOOL DENTAL OFFICER TO THE PRINCIPAL SCHOOL MEDICAL OFFICER FOR 1955 The shortage of full time Dental Officers continues, but this has been partly relieved by retaining the services of part time staff. The total number of sessions worked by these dental surgeons employed on a sessional basis amounts to the equivalent of two full time dental officers. This valuable contribution has increased the amount of routine work carried out, and consequently enabled us to inspect more children in the schools. The depletion of staff, however, makes it inevitable that large numbers of children continue to seek relief from pain by dental extractions, thus reducing the amount of routine conservation work which could otherwise be done. There has, however, been a decrease in the number of casual attendances during the year.
