This ed. was published in parts, 30 May 1795 to 21 Dec. 1807.
Copy 1 Vol. 1 Note: Complete copies have each vol. divided into two and all t.ps. dated 1807 (cf. next entry) This copy evidently represents an interim state bound up before completion. Vol. i is divided between 10N1 and 10N2, vol. ii between 9R and 9S. In the final state the division comes at 8G and 10S respectively and both gatherings are expanded from two leaves to three to allow for this; in this copy both are in their original two-leaf setting. The following plates are present: 'Roots', 'Pericarp', 'Fruit seed receptacle', 'Conservatory', 'Greenhouse', 'Ice-House'; only 'Roots' is numbered (as I); 'Roots', 'Pericarp' and 'Ice-House' are watermarked 1794. Two plates would have been in the missing portion of vol. ii, the remainder in the prelims. of vol. i.
Copy 1 Vol. 2 Note: Vol. ii is divided between 9R and 9S. Inserted at sig 20E in vol. ii is advert. slip announcing publication of final part of text (sigs. 20E-20S, most of which are watermarked 1805) to enable subscribers to bind their copies without waiting for prelims. Also in this vol. (at sig. 13A) is plate of the camphor tree of Sumatra (not part of this work)
