Into a solution consisting of two ounces of cyanuret of mercury and sixteen ounces of water, pass as much sulphuretted-hydrogene gas as will serve to decompose the salt, leaving an excess of the gas. Filter the liquor to se- parate the sulphuret of mercury formed, and treat the filtered liquor with an excess of sub- carbonate of lead. Shake the bottle until the excess of sulphuretted-hydrogene be absorbed. Filter once more, and the remaining liquor will be dilated hydro-cyanic acid, of a proper strength for medical purposes.* The prussic or hydro-cyanic acid is not found * See at the end of this paper the Latin formula, taken from the Pharmacopceia of the Faculty of Medicine of Paris, 1818.t t Mr, Garden, chemist, of Oxford-street, is the only per- son, to my knowledge, who has prepared the medicinal prnssk acid, according to both the above methods; each of which is perfectly good for the purpose of practice : and I have sa- tisfied myself, by occular demonstration, that every precaution was taken to ensure the accurate result of the operations.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b21055014_0020.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
