![i. Dustbins The Coimcirs provision for the supply of bins to private owners and for replacement of bins on Council housiug estates has Irnen of consideral)le valiie^ and details of the scheme for the year uuder review are as follows:— ])ins in stock, 31/3/47 . ... 91 l>ins purchased. ... 576 Bins allocated to Council houses ... ... 87 667 Bins sold to private owners. ... 62 Bins in stock, 31/3/48 . ... 518 j. (General I have again to direct the attention of your Council to the need for early consideration of the organisation of a public cleansing service to remote and isolated premises and also a service for the cleansing of septic tanks and cesspools, which is becoming a matter of considerable importance in view of the difficulties of individual owners obtaining labour able and willing to carry out this work. VIII. ABATEMENT OF NUISANCES The increased limitation on the use of building materials continue to make the wor’k of securing abatement of luiisances most difficult and it is felt that in numerous cases unwilling owners are using the present restrictioiis as an excuse for not carrying out works requested in iiifoi'mal notices. Considerable care is exercised in requesting the carry¬ ing out of work which will mahie heavy demands on materials in short supply, but it is, I think, apparent that unless existing houses are maintained in a reasonable state of repair, the steady deterioration of such property vdll be accelerated and create further problems for the Counncil. In Appendix Av is given a detailed statement of nuisances dealt with during the year and an abstract of this is: Nuisances outstanding, 31/12/46 ... 315 Nuisances found, 1947 . 1444 Nuisances abateel, 1947 . 1401 Nuisances outstanding, 31/12/47 ... 358 In dealing with the foregoing it has lieen necessary to issue the large number of 208 statutory notices, of which the following is a summary:—](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30267985_0054.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
