Ice-cream At the close of the year four premises were registered under the Food and Drugs Act, 1938, for the sale of ice-cream, and of this number, six premises were also registered for the manufacture of ice-cream. In the past efforts have been made to exercise control over conditions of sale, but the a])sence of bacteriological or ('liemical samples is keenly felt, and notwithstanding that the JM inistry of Health state that such standards arc not practicable at the present tune, they are in force in Northern Ireland and in many otlier countries. During the year the Ministry of Health have issued regulations regarding the heat treatment of ice-cream, and they have suggested certain bacteriological standards which might be applied informally. Eight samples of ice-cream were sub¬ mitted for analysis and were satisfactory in accordance with the informal standard. Professional organisations, and in particular the Sanitary Inspectors’ Association, have had lengthy discussions with representatives of the Ice-cream Alliance, and it is hoped that during the ensuing year an agreed code for the control of manufacture and sale of ice-cream will be forthcoming. X. SUPERVISION OF WORKPLACES a. Factories Act, 1937 The following is a brief outline of the work achieved under the above heading :—■ Factories Avith power ... Shops Act, 1934 25 inspections have been made and one shop wr.s found to be without sanitary conveniences and work was in hand for the provision of these at the year end. c.
