![(; The case of Acute Poliomyelitis occurred on a British vessel from Almerfa. Wh en the vessel docked the crew of 38 were well, but the tollowino* day the Chief Officer (34 years) was confined to bed with a chill. The next day ])aralysis of the left leg- was observed, and the ])atient removed to the Isolation Hospital for observation. Acute Poliomyelitis was confirmed by the Patliologdcal Tjabora- tory, and the patient died within 3(1 hours of admittance to Hospital. Full enquiries were made, but no definite source of infection could be found. The patient had not been ashore at Workington, and there were no cases in the town. The vessel left Almeria on the 19th October, and docked at Workington on the 28th. Severe gales had been encountered during the voyage. One notice was issued in pursuance of the Parrots (Prohibition of Import) Regulations in respect of two budgerigars. TABLE C.
