    This Work being published by the Author in Latin, was of Ufe only to the Learned: but, that it might be of more general Benefit, it was foon tranllated into Englijh. The Tranflation, fuch as it was, be¬ ing very injudicioufiy performed, and in a moft uncouth Style, was how¬ ever well received by the Publick: the Ufefulnels of the Matter caufing the Manner of the Performance to be lefs obferved. But the old Tranfla¬ tion being now out of print, and being found upon Examination to be even incapable of Correction, the Proprie¬ tor was defirous to have another made entirely new, which is what we now to offer to the Publick. T h e prefent Tranflation is from the laft Edition, very much correc¬ ted, improved, and enlarged by the Author. We have added alfo the Tranflation
