LE TERZE RIME DI DANTE, PRINTED ON VELLUM, 7n this copy the printed title has been omitted and tts place taken by A VERY FINE ILLUMINATED TITLE, lettered in gold with a coat-of-arms below supported by two cupids (gules, a wheel or, impaling azure the fourth quarter or, thereon a canton gules); an inserted leaf follows having on the recto a second title lettered in gold ‘‘Lo’nferno el Purgatorio el Paradiso di Dante Alaghieri (sic)” and on the verso A FINE FULL-PAGE MINIATURE 0f Dante meeting a leopard, a lionand a wolf in the wood with Virgil in the distance ; the blank leaf (sig. 12) at the end of the Inferno has been taken out and replaced by A FINE FULL-PAGE MINIATURE Of Virgil presenting Dante to Cato, the guardian of Purgatory,a SIMILAR FRONTISPIECE (slightly rubbed) being also inserted before the Paradiso representing Dante and S. Bernard contemplating the circles of the Blessed (Canto 31); the first page of each part is decorated with a lateral border and in the lower margin a miniature representing (i) Hell,
