No text description is available for this image![Report of the Committee of Visitors of the Surrey Lunatic Asylum, on the Letter of the Secretary of State, of 6th July, ]859, with respect to the Plans for the provision of additional accommodation for Pauper Lunatics in the County of Surrey, addressed to the Clerk of the Peace, and sent by him to the Committee, with a view to their reporting thereon at the General Quarter Sessions, to he held at Kingston, on the 18th October, 1859, as follows:— The Committee of Visitors reports that they have carefully considered this Letter; and having stated, at considerable length, the circumstances which have pre¬ ceded and led to the preparation of the plans referred to, in another Report to be presented at the same Ses¬ sions, having reference to a Memorial from the Guardians of the Chertsey Union, they have to request that such other Report may be read with, and regarded as part of this Report, The Committee regret that there should be a necessity for the provision of additional accommodation for so large a number of pauper insane as is the case in this County; and if a new Asylum, on a new site, could be erected and superintended with as little expense as the proposed extension of the present Asylum, they would have readily deferred to the views of the Commissioners in Lunacy, with respect to the congregation of a large number of patients ; but, as they are confident that the erection of a new Asylum, on a new site, will be much](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b3030409x_0043.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
