    In reference to chargeability, the patients are distributed as follows : M. F. Total. Corporation of London 18 19 37 City of London Union 15 38 53 East London Union .. 25 39 64 West London Union 11 10 21 Northampton Union 1 — 1 Kent County Asylum 56 25 81 The ordinary rate is 14s. per week. which has been the charge since the opening of the Asylum in April, 1866. The sanitary condition of the Asylum appears to be satisfactory j there has not since the last visit been therein any disorder of an epidemic character. We found only four patients in bed. No patient was in seclusion, according to the Medical Journal ; the patients secluded since the last visit have been 14 in the male division and 13 in the female, the former altogether on 30, and the latter on 19 occasions. With some exceptions, in the Wards No. 2 in the male division, and No. 8 in the female, the patients were quiet and orderly, and their personal condition, as to clothing and otherwise, was satis¬ factory. In the Wards last referred to, many of the patients were unruly and noisy, and several of the women were crouching upon the ground, a habit which it should be a special duty of the nurses to correct. We noticed a considerable number of patients wearing strong and special dresses of an unsightly character, secured by locks and belts. We urgently recommend the disuse of all such obsolete contrivances $ and we further suggest the removal, from time to
