![Teacliing in motliercraft and in food value- is very necessary for tlie .inotliers, but the atmosphere of a crowded Infant Welfare Centre is not one in which it is easy to lecture, so that instruction has to be given when possible to individuals in the course of examination. The teaching of mothercraft is desirable in the elementary schools. ' Such a service would be of inestimable' value to the health of future i; generations. I;Nursing Homes (Sections 187-195, Public Health Act, 19'3G) There were three Maternity Homes and two Nursing Homes on the 'Register at the beginning of thei year. 1 These Homes are inspected regularly. Any lapse in administration .|of the Homes is immediately dealt with by the Medical Officer of Health, !jand the appropriate remedy insisted upon. llSoUTHEENBOWN ReST HoME (CONVALESCENT) ji 4 patients were admited to this Home during the year and derived [benefit in health from their so,]'ourn there. f Several mothers who would have been suitable cases for convalescence at this Home were unable to accept accommodation owing to their failure to arrange for the care of their children during their absence from home. [Child Life Protection (Sections 206-220, Public Health Act, 1936) At the end of 1947 there were 5 Foster Parents and 6 Foster Children on thei Register. I None of the foster parents is entirely dependent upon the keeping of foster children for a living. These children are living under satisfactory conditions, and are well ?ared for.
