In- censes or other drugs ( enumerated above) are sprinkled over burning coals kept in an iron or copper plate. The tire (with burning drugs) is put under the chair or couch, and the fumes directed to the naked body. MINERAL MATERM MEDICA. For convenience of description,mineral substances are divided into gioups, which include metallic substances, compound minerals or rocks, saline substances, stones, clay, &c. Metallic substances : Under the group of metals may be men- tioned Malleable metals, which include gold, silver, copper, iron, lead, and tin. These are described seriatim. Next in order are described Brittle metals, such as zinc and arsenic. The other metals are mer- cury and sulphur. Mercury is a highljHavourite metal with natives, and a majority of its ])rescriptions contain Par{i Ujali in some form or another. Sulphur is a constant ingredient in nearly all the pre- •})iirations which contain mercury. Compound minerals: These include Alum, Alralca, Son/mulcM- dagadi, and earths. Tiiese are masses of minerals in a state of combination or aggregation with one another. Saline substances : These are numerous, and include salts which exist in nature, and salts as obtained from saline earths. Salts as sttist in nature, are known as Natural Saits. Salts obtained from saline earths are : Navast'igara, Tahlcana-lchdra, Suro-ldidra, and PApada- hhAira. SAji-khAra and Java-khc'tra are salts not obtained from mineral substance.s, but are a produce of vegetable ashe.s. Bida-lavana is a produce of a combination of SAinhara and Am^dA, Sahchala is prepared by a combination of Samhara, Mithuh, and Uiniaja. Patavajota is an artificial preparation of Suro-kkAra and Phataki. JJandAro is a preparation of SAji-khAra, Phataki, and MAiycm.
