![Tinffure of Rhubarb. < Take of rhubarb, two ounces and a half; letter carda- mom feeds, half an ounce ; brandy, two pints. Digeft for a week, and (train the tindture. Thofe who chufe to have a vinous tincture of rhubarb may infufe the above ingredients in a bottle of Lifbon wine, adding to it about two ounces of proof fpirits. If half an ounce of gentian root, and a drachm of Virgi- nian fnake-root be added to the above ingredients, it will make the bitter tincture of rhubarb. All thefe tinftures are defigned as ftomachics and corro- borants as well as purgatives. ]*n weaknefs of the ftomach, indigeftton, laxity of the inteftincs, fluxes, cholickyand fuch like complaints, they are frequently of great fervice. The dofe is from half a fpoonful to three or four fpoonfuls or more, according to the circumftances of the patient, and the purpofes it is intended to anlwer. Paregoric Elixir. Take of flowers of benzoin, half an ounce; opium, twro drachms. Infufe in one pound of the volatile aromatic fpirit, for four or five days, frequently fhaking the bottle ; afterwards {train the elixir. i his is an agreeable and fafe way of adminiflering opium. It eafes pain, allays tickling, coughs, relieves difficult breath- ing, and is ufeful in many diforders of children, particularly the hooping cough. The dole to an adult is from fifty to a hundred drops. Sacred Elixir. Take of rhubarb cut final], ten drachms ; fuccotorine aloes, in powder, fix drachms ; letter cardamom feeds, half enounce; French brandy, two pints. Infufe for two or three days, and then (train the elixir. This ufeful ftomachic purge may be taken from one ounce to an ounce and a half. Stomachic Elixir. Take of gentian root, two ounces ; Curattao oranges, one ounce ; Virginian fnake-root, half an ounce.
