![Report of Nursing Activities From August 15, 1932 to December 31, 1932 I herewith submit the report of the nursing activities of the Lying-In Hospital for the last months of the year of 1932. The organization of the department began in August. During this month about fifteen nurses were engaged in setting up equip¬ ment, preparing supplies and studying various techniques. Under the direction and guidance of Dr. Stander and members of his staff, definite techniques in the care and treatment of patients were evolved. Each division, namely, the admitting service, labor and delivery, operating, nursery and pavilion services were carefully organized to give the best possible care to patients. The formal opening of the clinic was preceded by an informal meeting of the medical and nursing staffs. At this time Dr. Stander presented the aims and ideals of the department. He outlined the responsibilities of the clinic to the community and emphasized the part the nurses were to take in this responsibility. On the morning of September 1, five of the seven pavilions were in readiness for the reception of patients. The nursing staff consisted of the following: Head of Department. 1 Supervisors. 4 Assistant Supervisor. 1 Head Nurses. 8 Charge Nurses. 2 Assistant Head Nurses. 6 General Staff Nurses. 18 Supplementary Staff Secretary. 1 Attendants. 14 Orderlies. 6 Total. 61 In order to meet the demands made by the rapid increase of patients and the opening of the remaining two pavilions, the staff was necessarily enlarged by the first of October.
