![MORTALITY Deaths. 1 In 154 discharges there was one death Gross Mortality. 0.649% This was a post-operative death in 116 operative cases Mortality. 0.862% 1. Post operative pulmonary embolus with bilateral thrombosis branches of pulmonary arteries Age: 45. Patient in moderate shock was admitted as an emergency because of uterine hemorrhage. On twelfth day following admission had a diagnostic curettage. Pathological report was submucous myoma, infected. Eleven days later had abdominal subtotal hysterectomy. Patient had hypertension, arteriosclerosis, cardiac hypertrophy, and obesity. Post-operative course uneventful, except for tachycardia and elevation of temperature to 38°C. on the second, third, and fourth post¬ operative days. Death occurred suddenly on the fourteenth post-opera¬ tive day as she was returning to her bed after sitting up for the first time for one-half hour. Autopsy performed.
