(The bank in the same . . . in Gosberkyrk shyft) Item the seyd jure say that the banke of the seyd ryver within the paryshe & shyft of Gosberkyrk ys in great decay for lak of hyght from Stone Brygg to Cokerell Hough and ought to be repared exa[Ited] and amended by the landholders of Gosberkyrk accordyng to the joyce boke ther. (... kepyng owte ...ryng owte) Item the seyd jure say that the wynter last past ther was a gytt or gole brake over the bank of the seyd ryver of the north syde nyghe to Party Brygg by reason wherof the waters of Quadryng dyd overflowe the seyd bank & run into the seyd great Plus in folio sequenti [473.X1.19] 199 (8) ryver of Gosberkyrk & Surflett aforeseyd called Rusgate Ee by reason of the rage & great? ... that the seyd waters of Quadryng hadd into the seyd ryver, overcharged the seyd ryve[r] & so greatly that at the meatyng of the seyd ryver with the great ryver called the Be[ache] caused the water therin, whyche shuld run with the seyd ryver of Rusgate Ee to the see gote to ret[urn to] the hede & course of the seyd ryver called the Beache bak ageyn & returned the water into the petty d{rain] called the Tundam & the Ley Fen Lode by reason wherof the landes medowes & pastures to .. . Rusgate & Chele were greatly overflowen surrounded & drowned to the great enesty . . . hyndrans of the lordes landholders & occupyers of the groundes towardes Rusgate & Chele, w[hich] forseyd bank of Gos- bertown Ee yf yt shuld not be suffycyently & substancyally amen(ded| repayred exalted & amended to kepe the seyd waters owte of the seyd ryver shuld not only be an utter surroundyng & drownyng of suche townes within the partyes of Kesten . . . of ryght drean by the seyd ryver of Rusgate Ee but also shall surround & drown the . . . quarters & angles of Gosberkyrk & Surflett towardes Rusgate & Chele aforeseyd.
