    SONNET. To Wm. Taylor, Jun. of Norwich, leaving him in 1815 Though fates may by their dread decree Part friends, and snatch thee from my sight; Yet, can’t they touch my memory, Which oft will bring back past delight ? And oft when grief or sadness weigh Upon thy friend’s desponding soul, The thoughts of hours with thee, how gay ! I from these haggard beldames stole, Will smooth the furrows of my cheek. And gild reflecting back past joy. The hour that flies without relief, —- To griefs I’ve suffer’d from a boy. — Thus, though we part, in thought you near shall Your image still shall act the friend to me.
