    Now broken only by the gutt’ral song Of yonder mournful bird, should mark the hour At which I oft have met with him I seek— x4.ncl to my wishes, lo! this way he comes. — Enter RiNALDO. Why ever thus, my son, court solitude? For ever roaming midst these groves thou’rt seen. While gayest sports and games engage the rest — Does melancholy lead thee thus to seek The solitary grove or sultry beach? Hast thou perchance some deep, some secret woe. To brood o’er which may sooth thy sorrow’d soul? Or hast thou in the halls of Venice left Some lovely mistress, who in bondage held Thy vanquished heart, ere yet thy cruel fates Condemn’d thee captive to these sterner foes? My office here is comfort to bestow. — If then in aught I can relieve thy grief. Impart thy wish, nor doubt my friendly zeal. Rin, Nor grief nor melancholy cause my flight From scenes to which my thoughtless comrades haste — Low pleasures may allay a common grief. Blit what can give repose to pangs like mine — The pangs of hopeless love ?
