PORTCHESTER. - The Portsmouth ''Waterworks C'^mpany, 3. OROPTOII. - The Gosport 'wa ter’''rorks Company. 4. SARISBURY, 'T^ITCHPIEID and 'AARSASH.- The Southampton Corporation. Far eharn. - Th-^ Pareham 'Vater^'^orks are the property of the Pareham Urba’n District Council and supply all the properties in the Pareham East and West ‘ards except for a few housess which, for convenience are supplied by the Gosport water mains. The consumption of water from the Pareham hterworks for the year was 270,552,000 an increase of 8,158,000 galls, over the previous year. Samples of water v/ere taken for analj/’sis at least once a month; the results being consistently satisfactory. Crofton, PortchQster, Sarisbury, Titchficld and hrsash. Reports on samples are periodically received and have been consistently satisfactory. Other Supplies.- There are still a number of shallo\7 wells existing in the Districts, DRAIHAGE AND SEWAGE. Pareham.-- The Sewage Disposal Works are still in the process of being enlarged - the v/ork has been delayed owing to the war. Crofton and Portchester.- Most of the residential portions of the area of these two wards have now been provided with sev>/ers. There is still some portions of the Portchester ^ard requiring sewers, but this work has been postponed owing to the war. The sewage from these two wards is brought to Pareham for treatment. Sarisbury.- The Sewerage System for the Housing Site at Addison Road is working satisfactorily. Titchfield.- The Sewage Works to deal with this area was found to be inadequate. It is proposed to scrap the existing works - install larger motors and lay pumping main to a point in Ranvilles lane, from here it will gravitate to Pareham and be dealt with at the Pareham disposal works. Tenders for the work have been accepted. Arrangements have been made to deal with the Tannery waste from the Titchfield Tannery. PUBLIC CIEANSIEG. In the Pareham cz Crofton Nards the work is done'by direct labour, two SoD.Freighters being employed for this purpose. In the other hrds the v/ork is done by Contract- Lorries being employed. During the year the Council decided to collect house refuse and salvage once fortnightly, so that refuse and salvage are now collected on alternate weeks. This system has vrorked very well fev? complaints being received.
