![2* GEl'IERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES FOR THE AREA HOSPITAL FACILITIES The Dorking General Hospital maintains apprns:inately 250 beds for medical, surgical and maternity cases* Patients requiring-hospital treatment for infections diseases may be admitted to ore of a number of hospitals, none of which is situated in t’ue district. LABORATORY FACILITIES A laboratory service is available to medical practitioners at the local hospital. Examinations of specimens in connection ilth the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases can be referred i',o the Public Health Laboratory of the Medical Research Cour.c:ll located at West Hill House, Epsom, The staff of this laboratory also examine and repoarb on the bacteriological conditions of samples of millc, food and water taken by the Public Health Department, AJ'-IBULAIJCE SERVICE The public ambulance service is under the control of the Surrey County Ooimcil, who have given the folloxdLng information regarding the use of the service. The main amb-ulance station for the area is at Pendleton Road, RedhJll (telephone No, Reigate 4835), with a sub-station at Harrowlands, South Terrace, Dorking, In accidents in the home a? elsewhere, or in any sudden illness in the street or public place, any responsible person may call the ambulance to remove the patient (if by telephone, use the local Emergency Galling System^, Normal maternity cases will be removed if the applicant can give evidence that a maternity bed has been bool-red, liaternity cases with serious complications, or where bii-bh is dmamrent, will^not normally be moved without the authority of a doctor cr certified midwife, who should travel i/ith the patient in the ambu].ance* The removal of other cases of illness or accident will be arranged by the hospital concerned or by the medical practiti'-^ner in charge of the patient. PERSONAL HEATH SERVICES The provision of services relating to the care of mothers and young children, midxd.fery, health visiting, home nursing, ambulance and domestic nelp, are the responsibility of the Surrey County Council as local hedth authority.
