Who could have imagined, twenty Years ago, that Eleétricity would ever have been employed Medicinally ? It is not to the Phyficians we are indebted for its Pro- erefs, but to Natural Philofophers : Men no Way interefted, fave for the Benefit of Society. ‘Why then fhould not Animal Electricity and Magnetifm, like feveral other fimple Medicines which have been beneficial to Mankind, be em- ployed? Have not Load-ftones and Artificial Magnets been proved beneficial in many Cafes, particularly in Spafmodic, Nervous Difeafes, &e. approved of by the French Academy even three Years ago, and now made Ufe of in Exgland ? For my own Part, I have no other Aim but to ren- der the Science known, for the Advantage of Man- kind ; and I hope, by the Patronage | have already experienced, I fhall fulfil my Miffion, according to my Patent, granted me by the Philofophical Harmonic Society at Paris; and fhall efteem my- felf happy beyond Expreffion, to convince you of its good Effects, and the Refpeét with which I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, _ Your very Devoted Humble Servant, JOHN BELL.
