    It appears, that the woman had been in labour the beft part of the day, with very flrong pains, before the rupture is fuppofed to have taken place. The head was firmly wedged in the pelvis ; but, in attempting to open it, fuddcnly gave way to the force applied. Now, let us confider for one moment the nature of the cafe. If a rupture had taken place in the uterus, as the head was firmly wedged in the pelvis, the feet muft have been the part pro¬ truded ; whence, when I recoiled the flrong contraftile power of the uterus**, and the length of time intervening be* tween the attempt to open the head, and the time when the rupture is fup- 1 . ♦ # When a part of the child only has efcaped through a rupture of the uterus, the contra&ion, as related by authors, is great.
