    EMERGENCY ADMISSIONS Section 20/21 ; 151 males, 172 females—Total 323. Of the total emergency admissions 290 became Voluntary patients, 1 Temporary Patient and 7 Certified patients (these figures are included in the direct admissions shown above). Seven Emergency admissions were discharged and 18 died. Eight remained on the 31st December, 1955. No less than 116 of the deaths were of patients over the age of 65 years. GENERAL HEALTH There were no epidemics during the year. A small number of new cases of tuberculosis was notified. The mass radiography unit visited the hospital in December, 1955, and as a result a small number of patients were put on special observation. The Sanatorium has been working well during the year and only a few vacancies occur from time to time. The Geriatric Wards which, year in, year out, work to full capacity, throw a great strain on the nursing staff. This nursing of old people is one of the growing problems, for as time goes on their number in¬ creases, without the necessary provision being made for their nursing. TREATMENT UNITS The Insulin Therapy units have been working hard throughout
