    In many fpccies of Paralyfn Electricity may cer- tainly be confidered as the moft effe&ual remedy that can be employed. Were it had recourfe to at an early period of the difeafe, during that time which is often wafted in drinking fome mineral water, or fwallowing an infignificant drug, much might be expedted from its ufe.'—But when it is only repaired to as a kind of defperate expedient, after the confti- tution is debilitated by having undergone the whole round of ftimulating medicines, and time has in- creafed the inveteracy of the difeafe, how can Elec- tricity be expected to fucceed? Such conduct, indeed, is too common in every cafe where this remedy is made ufe of. It is feldom men- tioned till the patience either of the patient or the Dodlor, or perhaps of both, is exhaufted, when Electricity is recommended and employed, rather with a view to get decently rid of each other, than from any well-founded hopes of obtaining a cure.— This being the cafe, it is rather to be wondered at that it ever fuccceds, than that it fometimes fails. Would 'the Faculty in general lay afide prejudice, and candidly recommend-it in qpfes where its ufe is' plainly indicated—would mankind confult thoir own welfare^ X.
