It is hoped, with the services of an Additional Sanitary Inspector, to make a rapid survey and a realistic approach to the p'roblem of old cottage property. Up to the end of 1954, no applications have been made to the Council for certificates of disre])air under Part II of the 1954 Act. During the year, seven Improvement Grants have been ai)proved by the Council and preliminary investigations are in hand for several other properties. RIVERS, STREAMS AND SEWERAGE Informal action has been taken in various parts of the district t(j prevent pollution of streams and water courses. Sewer ditches continue to be a problem. Only three of the 13 Parishes (Winsley, Hilperton and Holt) have sewerage systems, but additional schemes are envisaged hy the Surveyor to the Council. SWIMMING BATHS There are no swimming baths or pools open to the public in this area.
